Noida: Cop enters flat on fire with a pipe, douses flames in 15 mins
Updated: 2022-08-01
NOIDA: After a fire broke out in a 12th-floor flat in Tower 2 of the NRI society in Sector 45 on Sunday, a chowki in charge from the area entered the flat with a hose pipe and started controlling the flames as two other constables provided him support from outside. However, Rajesh Yadav, 46, started feeling suffocated soon, and if the water sprinklers in the room had not begun working then, the smoke from the fire could have been fatal for him. Yadav was transferred to Sector 45 chowki five to six months ago.
Police said they received a PCR call around 4.45 am from a society resident and alerted the nearest chowki about the fire. Yadav and two other constables reached the spot at 5 am. The fire officials reached at 5.45am, but the cops had managed to bring the fire under control by then. There are at least 600 flats in the NRI society, with nearly 2,000 families residing in these flats.
Yadav told TOI, “The house help, who was in the flat, along with two pet dogs, said that the fire broke out around 4.30 am. The help and the dogs were sleeping in the hall room when the air conditioner sparked a fire. Seeing the fire, the dogs started barking and alerted the help, who took the dogs out and alerted the neighbours.”
Explaining what made him take measures before the firemen arrived, Yadav said, “It is our responsibility to save lives. If I had waited for the fire officials, the fire would have spread more. So, I took a hose pipe and entered the flat. We have received training on such incidents. But after some time, I felt suffocated. Thankfully, the water sprinkler started working, and I was able to bring the fire under control within 10-15 minutes.”
