Pune: Car, motorcycles damaged in fire; whiff of fuel theft bid
Updated: 2022-08-03
PUNE: A fire damaged four vehicles — a car and three motorcycles — in the early hours of Tuesday at Kalewadi in Wakad. The Wakad police analysed CCTV footage recovered from the spot and suspected that the fire started following an attempt by an unknown duo to steal petrol from one of the vehicles.
Inspector Santosh Patil of the Wakad police said, “We are also probing if there was any other reason behind the fire. We are also investigating if the incident was the fallout of a recent dispute.”
The fire broke out around 4am on Tuesday. A fire tender from the Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade reached the spot and doused fire. “Three two-wheelers were completely destroyed in the fire, while a car was damaged,” said another officer.
CCTV footage recovered from a neighbouring establishment showed a car stopping near the parking shed and two men getting down with cans. “They walked towards the parking shed. Within seconds, a fire broke out, and the duo ran away,” said Omprakash Yadav, who had parked his car and two motorcycles in the shed.
