Electric vehicle showroom catches fire, 27 bikes burnt

Updated: 2022-08-13

Aurangabad: A fire at an electric vehicle showroom in Nanded, about 285 km from here, early on Friday morning not just reduced the vehicles to ashes but also posed serious threat to two patients admitted to a maternity hospital in the same building.

Authorities said that it was the timely action from the gynaecologist, who on learning about the fire, rushed to the hospital and brought out the two patients. Authorities said that the timely response of the fire brigade department helped save the hospital from the inferno.

The incident came to light at around 6 am when the morning walkers noticed fumes coming out of the locked showroom. They alerted the local police and the fire brigade department, whose teams rushed to the spot.

Authorities said that before they reached the spot, everything in the showroom had either melted or had been reduced to ashes. It still took the fire brigade close to half an hour to douse the flames.

Nanded’s fire officer Raees Pasha told TOI, “There is no clarity about the cause of fire. It could either be due to short circuit in the power supply of the showroom or even in one of the bikes.”

A case of accidental fire has been registered with the Shivaji Nagar police station in Nanded city and police have initiated a probe into the incident.

When contacted, police inspector Nitin Kashikar said, “We are not ruling out anything. We are writing to all the departments concerned and will take an expert opinion before coming to a conclusion about the fire that engulfed the entire showroom.”

The officer said that the police are also screening the CCTV footage of the cameras installed in and around the locality to check the possibility of sabotage.
