Fire at lion’s abode in Amreli

AHMEDABAD: A fire broke out in Kankrej in Lathi taluka of Amreli district, which is home to about 30 lions. However, there were no reports of any casualties.
Officials said that a passerby might have carelessly thrown a lighted match in the grass resulting in the fire. With the summer setting in, grass has started drying up. Officials said that in many cases, a controlled fire is carried out by the department. The department resorts to such controlled fire when the grass assumes a height where animals can easily hide themselves in it.
