Pune: Car catches fire inside Katraj tunnel, family safe

PUNE: Four members of a family had a narrow escape when they exited their car and minutes later it was gutted in a fire inside the new Katraj tunnel on Sunday morning, fire brigade personnel said.
The car was heading towards Satara from Swargate and it was passing through the new tunnel around 11am when it caught fire. No one was injured.
Fire officer Sandeep Pawar said, “The car driver spotted sparks and some smoke coming out of the engine compartment and halted the car. There were two children and two adults in the car.” The family stepped out of the car and within minutes, flames engulfed the entire car, he said. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames.
