Chennai: Bike hits parked bus, both go up in flames

CHENNAI: A bike smashed into a parked bus at Tambaram on Monday and both went up in flames. The bus belonging to a private company was parked on GST Road near Tambaram bus stop. At 5am, a speeding bike coming from Chromepet rammed it. Since it was a holiday the driver had parked the bus and gone home.
Soon after the biker slammed into the bus, the bike caught fire. In the impact, the fire began to spread to the bus. Panicking after the bus caught fire, the biker fled. Passersby alerted the fire safety personnel. Fire tenders battled for nearly an hour to put out the blaze.
Police said it was a narrow escape for the biker. His vehicle got stuck under the rear wheels of the bus. But he managed to come out.
Since the bike was completely gutted, police are facing difficulty in tracing the biker. They will check the CCTV cameras in the area to nab him.
