MORADABAD: At least five people died while two others sustained critical burn injuries after a massive fire broke out in a three-storey building in Galshaheed area of UP’s Moradabad on Thursday evening.
The fire was massive and it took over three hours to douse it.
The fire tenders managed to rescue 12 people from the building and five of them were critically injured and unconscious.
They all were admitted at district hospital in Moradabad city where four were declared dead on arrival while one died during treatment.
The firefighters were still carrying out the rescue operation at the time of filing this report.
Moradabad district magistrate Shailendra Singh and senior superintendent of police Hemant Kutiyal had also arrived at the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
The building owner had stored scrap material in the ground floor of the house while his family was living on three floors of the house.
The fire broke out in the scrap due to unidentified reasons.
The DM said, “A joint family of three brothers lived in the house where the fire broke out. So far five people, including two minor children, died in the incident while seven have survived. Firefighters are trying to identify the reason behind the incident.”
Three daughters of a fireworks manufacturer were killed after crackers stored in their two-storey building exploded due to a fire in their house at Joshan Tola locality in Jahanabad area on the outskirts of Pilibhit on August 2.
