Noida: Fire breaks out in factory, doused after five hours

NOIDA: A fire broke at a factory in Noida Sector 80 around midnight on Friday.
The fire broke out on the factory’s first and second floors. More than a dozen fire department vehicles and police teams reached the spot. It took around five hours to put out the fire.
“After receiving the call, five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and later eight more were pressed into service to bring the flames under control. The fire broke out in a three-storey building in Sector 80. The flames started on the first and second floors where the Bureau Veritas Consumer Product Services operates,” said Arun Kumar Singh, the chief fire officer of Gautam Budh Nagar. Later, the fire spread to the ground floor where there is a cloth godown, added the officer.
Though no casualties have been reported, goods worth lakhs of rupees have been burnt to ashes in the fire.
“The fire spread massively and was brought under control in a couple of hours. The exact cause of the fire is not known yet,” Singh said.
The district’s fire department has conducted over 100 awareness campaigns and fire drills across residential societies, sectors, and industrial and commercial areas.
“The department gets maximum such cases in April and May because of the heat and short-circuit of electrical connections. Most of the cylindrical fires are reported from slums or cluster areas,” the CFO told TOI.
