Tamil Nadu: Fire guts cracker shop in Hosur

KRISHNAGIRI: A major fire broke out at a cracker shop in Hosur here on Sunday. Since the incident happened in the early morning, no one was hurt. Several lakh worth of crackers were destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire is yet be ascertained, police said.
The shop at Vaishnavi nagar on the Bengaluru-Salem national highway is owned by M Vadivel, 46, of Vellore district. He obtained a license to run the shop all-round the year.
“Around 4am on Sunday, police officials on patrol duty noticed thick smoke emanating from the shop. Earlier, they reached the spot after hearing an explosion. They alerted the fire department,” a police officer said.
Immediately, fire and rescue personnel from the Hosur station reached the spot. They also pressed into service fire tenders from Rayakottai and Denkanikottai.
“More than 30 fire rescue services personnel fought the blaze and extinguished it around 8am,” said Aravinth, assistant superintendent of police.
Meanwhile, police informed the shop owner Vadivel. “He was at Sivakasi to purchase crackers when he was informed. He is on his way to Hosur. Only after questioning him, the value of crackers destroyed in the fire could be estimated,” the ASP said.
The Hosur police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
