Ghaziabad: A fire broke out at a branch of Indian Overseas Bank near Yashoda hospital in Kaushambi on Friday morning. No casualty has been reported and authorities are investigating the reason behind the incident. According to the fire department, the incident took place around 9.40 am on Friday, when a few staff members were inside the bank. The flames were doused within 20 minutes.
Sunil Kumar Singh, chief fire officer (CFO) of Ghaziabad said that a short circuit might have been the reason behind the incident. “After receiving the information, two fire tenders were sent to control the situation. The fire reached the manager’s cabin and some files and documents were gutted,” he added.
The Ghaziabad fire department has issued notices to over 600 buildings in the district for non-compliance of fire safety measures. A total of 3,765 fire incidents were reported in Ghaziabad between January 2019 and August 15 this year, in which 27 people died. In fact, the department conducted a survey of 1,728 buildings, out of which some 690 were found to be compliant with fire safety norms.
