Greater Noida: Shop catches fire, man asleep chokes to death
Updated: 2022-08-30
GREATER NOIDA: A 21-year-old man died after a fire broke out inside the shop he was sleeping in early on Monday morning, police said.
Shashi Kapoor, who belonged to Mathura, had started working at the Prahlad Sweets shop in Jagat Farm market, Beta-2, two weeks back.
Police said Kapoor used to stay in the shop, and he was asleep when the fire broke out. “We were informed about the fire around 7am. A fire department team and the police rushed to the spot, and found Kapoor unconscious while dousing the blaze,” said RP Singh Tomar, chowki in charge, Jagat Farm.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in the city, but died a few minutes after reaching there, Tomar said.
Fire department officials said they suspect an electrical short-circuit may have triggered the blaze.
“Kapoor did not have any burn injuries, and it is likely that he fell unconscious due to the smoke. He was found in a small room that appeared to be the shop’s kitchen,” said Arun Kumar Singh, chief fire officer, Gautam Budh Nagar.
Kapoor’s family members have been informed and his body has been sent for a post-mortem. “The body will be handed over to the family after legal proceedings,” the post in charge said.
