NAVI MUMBAI: As many as four students of a school in CBD-Belapur, Navi Mumbai had a narrow escape after the school bus ferrying them suddenly caught fire in Sector -15, Kharghar on Monday morning.
The Kharghar fire bridge rescue team rushed to the spot for fire fighting operation and extinguished the fire within 5 minutes, after the bus driver and an assistant teacher in the bus immediately evacuated the four students, with the help of passersby.
The four students had panicked due to the fire incident but were pacified by the assistant teacher who then informed the school principal and the students were later handed over to their parents.
Kharghar fire brigade staff informed that they received the emergency call of a bus caught fire at 11.30am.
The fire broke out due to a short circuit in the school bus engine bonnet, when the bus had reached near Gharkul housing complex in Sector 15, Kharghar. As the bus driver saw fire smoke emanating from the engine bonnet, he immediately halted the bus on the roadside. The passerby helped them in evacuating the students from the bus before the fire engulfed the bus partially.
The Kharghar police team also rushed to the spot. The firefighters doused the flames within 5 minutes and prevented the bus from getting completely charred, informed Sandeepan Shinde, senior inspector of Kharghar.
