Fire breaks out at private hospital in Kanpur, no injuries reported

KANPUR: A major fire broke out in Santosh Hospital near Baradevi crossing area of the city in the early hours of Friday. Police and fire department were immediately informed about the incident. Police safely evacuated the occupants, including the patients, their attendants and staff of the hospital. At the same time, two fire tenders doused the fire. 
Four children, besides an 80-year-old patient Ramakant Awasthi and three others were undergoing treatment at the hospital. At around 5.30 on Friday morning, a short circuit occurred in the AC on the ground floor of the hospital and the fire broke out. 

Following the incident, there was panic among the patients and the hospital staff. They tried to douse the fire themselves, however, when the fire started to engulf a major portion, they alerted the control room.

Two fire tenders reached the spot from Kidwai Nagar and Fazalganj fire stations and brought the fire under control. Inspector Juhi, Jitendra Singh said that at 5.30 am, information was received that a fire broke out in Santosh Hospital. 
“The police team safely rescued the patients and shifted them to another nearby hospital,” he said. “The cause of the fire is said to be a short circuit,” he added. A fire department official meanwhile said that the fire fighting equipment in the hospital was found to be inadequate. “Investigations are on in this regard,” he added.nd is hospitalised,” he said.
