Fire breaks out on temple premises

Madurai: A fire broke out on the premises of the Arulmigu Sundararaja Perumal (Kallazhagar) temple in Alagarkovil on Saturday night even as hundreds of devotees were visiting to offer their prayers. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Devotees had gathered in large numbers at the temple especially with celebrations of ‘Navratri’ and ‘Purrattasi Sani’ festivals underway. According to official sources, a fire suddenly broke out in a room located near the ‘Madapalli’ (temple kitchen) in the outer area of the premises by around 8pm. The room contained items belonging to the temple, including photographs of the deity, books and other articles. As the fire spread quickly, it caused damage to the items stored in the room. tnn
