AHMEDABAD: A production unit for spare parts of windmill reported a major fire on Thursday morning. Fire brigades from Bavla, Sanand, Sarkhej, Dhandhuka, Dholka and Ahmedabad were pressed into service with 10 fire tankers and four firefighters. The blaze was yet to be brought under control till the report was filed on Thursday night.
According to Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) officials, the incident was reported at Iron Wind Ltd at Rohika crossroads on Bavla-Bagodara highway at 11.15am. Around 300 workers were at the premises when the fire broke out.
The fire erupted in the production unit and soon spread to the storage area and the waste kept outside. The workers vacated the premises on time and none reported injuries.
“The exact cause of the fire has not been known as we are still in the process of dousing the flames. Our challenge was to contain the fire so that nearby units were not affected. More than half the unit has been gutted,” said an AFES official.
A team of Bagodara police reached the spot and registered a complaint.
