Minor fire breaks out at bank

Chennai: In a minor fire that broke out at a national bank branch in Sowcarpet on Saturday, documents, cheques and computer hardware were damaged. The fire broke out in the office of the Central Bank of India on NSC Bose Road.
Police said the fire was spotted around 6am by a security guard.
Based on information, the fire and rescue services personnel from High Court Complex and Flower Bazaar rushed to the spot. A new machine used to suck out fumes to make way for firemen was put to use.
After a hour-long fight, the fire was brought under control. Four computers, several hard drives, documents, cheque books and some cash were charred completely in the fire.
The Flower Bazaar police have registered a case and after preliminary investigations said that the fire was due to a short circuit. Further investigations are on.
