NOIDA: It took eleven fire engines and scores of first responders around three and a half hours to douse a blaze that broke out at a sportswear factory in Phase-2 area of the city in the early hours of Monday.
There were no casualties as the work day had not yet begun when the fire broke out, officials said.
“Eleven fire tenders were rushed to the spot after a call about the fire was received around 7.35am. It broke out at the ground floor of the factory and quickly spread to the first floor as sportswear material is highly inflammable,” said Pradeep Kumar Dubey, chief fire officer (CFO), Gautam Budh Nagar.
“The factory was not operational at the time of the incident, so there were no casualties or injuries reported. It took firefighters over three and a half hours to control the fire,” the CFO said.
According to the department, a short circuit may have triggered the blaze but an investigation is yet to confirm.
Dubey said that the fire safety system of the factory was working at the time their teams responded, but it wasn’t enough to put out the blaze.
“We have not received any complaint in the matter yet and further investigation is underway,” he said.
The fire department is yet to assess the damage to the factory.
This year, the fire department has carried out inspections of commercial areas in the city to check if safety norms were being followed. Subsequently, notices were issued to several establishments as their fire safety systems were not up to the mark, officials said.
