KOLKATA: Residents of two New Town highrises had a midnight scare when a major fire broke out in a cluster of temporary roadside shops, leaving 16 of them gutted on Saturday.
The fire broke out at one of the shops outside Uniworld City and soon spread to adjacent shops. Allegedly, four cylinders exploded as locals tried to douse the flames. Samaresh Das, chairman of New Town Forum and News, said: “I request the administration to take firmer steps.”
