LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old man was charred to death after a fire broke out at an eating point in the basement of a hotel in Lucknow’s Charbagh area late Thursday night.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the fire on the information received from locals who spotted flames emanating from the shop.
The injured were rushed to SPM civil hospital by the locals and firemen in Hazratganj where one of the victims Prakash Datre (35), a Nasik resident was declared dead.
Another identified as Anish Shiekh suffered burns on vital organs and is under treatment, said the police.
“They had come to attend a wedding in Pratapgarh when they met the mishap,” said Additional DCP Central Zone Rajesh Srivastava.
Srivastava said that prima facie it had come to the fore that the two victims along with five others had come to attend a wedding in Pratapgarh on December 7.
“They were returning and had booked a hotel in Charbagh. The five members were inside the hotel asleep, while the two were having biryani when gas leakage caused a cooking gas cylinder to burst causing the casualty,” he said.
Chief fire officer, Lucknow, Mangesh Kumar said that the fire was controlled in time due to the fire equipment present in the hotel built above the eating point.
