GUWAHATI: Seven commercial establishments and five residential complexes were gutted after a major fire broke out at Marwari patty in Jorhat district early on Thursday.
No casualties were reported, but properties worth six crore were destroyed, officials said.
DC (Jorhat) Ashok Kumar Barman said, “Short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. Owing to the presence of inflammable items inside the commercial complexes, it took us 22 hours to bring the blaze under control. I have asked the ADC to conduct an inquiry and submit his report within a week.”
