UGD pipes gutted in fire in Trichy city

TRICHY: A minor fire was reported at Sangliyandapuram in Trichy city on Thursday, but nobody sustained injuries in the mishap that happened in a crowded area. However, the fire gutted dozens of drainage pipes stored at an open space for the ongoing underground sewage project of Trichy corporation.
Corporation sources said that the pipelines were temporarily stocked on a vacant space on the Sangliyandapuram Main Road near the Arasamaram bus stop. Residents spotted smoke emanating from the pipes. After getting a distress call, a fire extinguishing vehicle was rushed from the Cantonment fire service station. The fire service personnel completely doused the fire in 30 minutes and suspect sabotage in the fire as the chances of accidental fire including electrical short-circuit seems not possible. TNN
