NOIDA: Two workers died in their sleep after a fire broke out at a cardboard godown in Greater Noida (west) in the small hours of Friday.
The factory is located in Milakh Lachhi village of Greater Noida (west) under the jurisdiction of Bisrakh police station.
Fire officials said they received a call about the fire around 1.48am. “Immediately teams from the local police station and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot,” said Pradeep Kumar Chaubey, the chief fire officer of the district.
The blaze was brought under control within minutes, officials said.
“When our men checked the godown, they found two people lying unconscious. The victims were immediately rushed to the community health centre in Bisrakh where doctors declared them dead on arrival,” Chaubey said.
Officials suspect that an electrical short-circuit triggered the fire and that the two workers died of asphyxiation after smoke engulfed the room in which they were sleeping.
