2 killed, 17 injured in fire after blast in Nashik chemical plant

NASHIK: Two people died and 17 others were injured in a massive fire triggered by a blast in a boiler of a chemical factory in Maharashtra’s Nashik district on Sunday.
The incident took place at a poly films industry in Igatpuri town at around 11am.

Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.
He met the injured in the hospital and said the state government would bear the treatment cost of those injured in the incident.
Fire tenders from Nashik Municipal Corporation and all major industries were rushed to the spot. 
Senior officials, including the district collector Gangadharan D and Superintendent of Police Shahaji Umap, visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
Fire officials of the Nashik Municipal Corporation said that the fire was massive.
Firefighting as well as search and rescue operations were under way.
The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
