5 of family charred to death as hut catches fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau

VARANASI: Five members of a family, including a woman and her three minor children, were charred to death when their hut caught fire at Shahpur village in Kopaganj police station area of Mau district on Tuesday night. The bodies were sent for postmortem. The district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
According to reports, the woman identified as Guddi Devi (35) along with her three children Abhishek (12), Dinesh (10) and Anjesh (6), and her sister’s daughter Chandani (14) were living in the hut. Guddi’s husband Ramashankar lived somewhere else to earn a living. They were sleeping in the hut after taking their meal when the fire broke out and engulfed the hut.
All of them were burnt alive in the fire. The local residents tried to extinguish the fire, and the fire tenders were also rushed to the village to douse the flames, but they could not be saved.
Mau district magistrate Arun Kumar, DIG Akhilesh Kumar and SP Avinash Pandey reached the spot after getting the information. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be found. According to officials, as per the initial report a spark from the stove caused fire which engulfed the entire hut in no time. The DM said that the woman and the children were in the hut when a spark from the stove led to fire in which they lost their lives.
