Updated: 2023-01-15
Indore: A major fire was reported in a plastic factory in Dosigaon Industrial Area of Ratlam late on Friday and continued for 15 hours before it could be controlled on Saturday noon.
The fire, which was triggered around 9 pm, reportedly destroyed assets worth lakhs. However, no casualty was reported. Plastic and other material were charred in the blaze.
Official said, initially, two tankers with a capacity of over 30,000 litres were rushed to the spot. After fighting fire for over 30 minutes, additional tenders with foam were called in. But the fire could not be controlled for several hours by two fire tenders and several water tankers. Subsequently, fire lorries from Piploda, Sailana, Jaora, Dhamnod, Namli and Nagda were called in and were engaged in dousing the flames.
District collector Narendra Suryawanshi and SP Abhishek Tiwari reached the spot late at night to take stock of the situation. They were engaged in controlling the situation at the spot for several hours.
SP Abhishek Tiwari said that more than 22 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. Earth movers were also taken to the spot and the structure was razed to contain the fire and to stop it from spreading to the nearby area.
The reason behind the fire could not be known but prime facie it appears as if there was a short circuit in the electric panel which led to the fire, officials said.
Industrial Area police reached the spot after learning of the incident and helped fire officials douse the flames. They said thatdue to plastic items stored inside the factory, the fire spread rapidly in the area. They were informed by some locals and the factory workers, who saw smoke billowing from the area following which they rushed to the spot. The industry owners were assessing the losses incurred in the fire.
