Major fire at chemical factory in Kolhapur, no casualties

KOLHAPUR: A major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Gokul Shirgaon MIDC, adjacent to Kolhapur city, and the blaze was brought under control by 10 fire tenders of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation, Kolhapur airport and MIDC.
Though the premises was completely gutted, no casualties or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The fire broke out on the premises of an unit manufacturing and designing metallurgical products, foundry chemicals and consumables.
According to primary information received from the employees of the company, the fire broke out at 3 pm. The employees immediately ran out of the premises. The firemen faced hurdles in controlling the fire due to the presence of chemical tanks. The smoke emanating from the fire was visible from the Pune-Bengaluru national highway. Police personnels were deployed at the site to keep the onlookers at bay.
