Fire in Pune’s Kharadi after leakage in gas pipeline; nobody hurt
Updated: 2023-01-15
PUNE: A fire broke out at Boratenagar in Kharadi following leakage from an underground Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) pipeline around 4am on Saturday, gutting a handcart but no one was injured in the incident.
Fire brigade officials attributed the fire to road-digging work in the area. This is the second such incident in the city in two days. Around 12.30am on Friday, a fire broke out in the MNGL underground pipeline near Rajaram bridge on Sinhgad Road, affecting supply of gas to at least 1,000 households and five CNG pumps.
The Pune fire brigade and MNGL officials rushed to the spot in Boratenagar soon after getting to know about the fire. Firemen controlled the flames, while the MNGL officials switched off the gas supply to the area.
The fire brigade officials said the road digging work was going on in the area and the pipeline was about two feet underground. The persons engaged in the digging work were unaware of the pipeline and some sharp digging tools hit it, leading to the leakage and subsequent fire, the officials added.
