Fire breaks out at Madurai district collectorate

MADURAI: A fire broke out at the Madurai district collectorate in the early hours of Monday.
Various documents, sarees and veshtis kept for distribution in Pongal gift hampers were damaged in the incident.
According to sources, the fire broke out in one of the buildings within the Madurai district collectorate campus. The building where the fire occurred was the district distribution office.
As the fire spread, security personnel at the Madurai district collectorate immediately alerted the fire and rescue services department.
Tallakulam fire and rescue services department personnel reached the spot and took efforts to douse the fire.
After around three hours, the fire was brought under control. No injuries were reported in the incident.
However, the fire damaged and destroyed various documents as well as the stocked sarees and veshtis kept for distribution of Pongal gift hampers.
The Tallakulam police were investigating.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
