Several families were rendered homeless on Maundy Thursday after a predawn fire of undetermined origin hit a residential area in Quezon City.
Quezon City fire marshal Superintendent Jesus Fernandez said the fire in the Tatalon area may have stemmed from an electrical short circuit.
“Ayon sa imbestigador, nagsimula ang sunog sa bahay na tatlong palapag, nagsimula ang sunog sa ikatlong palapag,” he said in an interview on dzEC radio.
He said their initial findings showed “galing sa electrical short circuit ang sunog.”
When asked if there were reports of residents injured in the fire, he said, “wala namang nasugatan.”
Earlier, GMA News’ Oscar Oida tweeted the fire was at Manunggal Street, and that it reached Task Force Bravo as of 5:52 a.m.
Volunteer firefighter group TXTFire said the fire reached Task Force Alpha as of 5:04 a.m.
A separate dzEC report said many of the residents tried to save their belongings while some could only watch their homes destroyed.
It added most of the houses were made of light materials. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
