Shops gutted in fire near temple

Vijayawada: Around 19 shops were gutted in a fire on the intervening night of Friday at Tirupatamma temple in Penuganchiprolu of NTR district. There were more than 50 temporary shops built with metal sheets to sell toys and puja materials near the temple. The fire, which broke out around 2 am, is suspected to have been caused by some electrical short circuit. The property damage is estimated to be around 50 lakh. In view of the temple festival to be held from February 5, many shopkeepers bought and stored materials on a large scale. The fire started in one of the toy shops and spread rapidly. tnn
