Labourer, 25, dies in pan masala factory fire in Kanpur

KANPUR: A 25-year-old labourer died after a major fire broke out in a pan masala factory located in city’s Panki Industrial Area site number 1, on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, police said.
The fire broke out in the godown on the third floor of the factory.
Half a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the site.
After putting a lot of effort, the fire was brought under control.
After informing the relatives of the deceased labourer about the incident, the police sent the dead body for postmortem.
Swaroop Nagar resident Naveen Kurele owns the pan masala factory in Panki Industrial Area site number 1.
Before the workers could escape, high flames started erupting from all sides of the godown.
One Shilu (25), a resident of Banpurwa village of Sadh police station area, who was sleeping there got trapped and sustained serious burns.
He was somehow taken out and taken to the hospital but he died on the way to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital.
“A short circuit in the electronic panel of the warehouse led to the fire. Further action will be taken on the basis of the report of the fire department,” said ACP Panki Nishank Sharma.
