Forest wildfire havoc in Tanahun

DAMAULI: Fires are blazing in various community forests adjoining Prithvi Highway in Tanahun.
Forests in Byas municipality, Jamune, Bar Bhanjyang, Keshavtar, Kaunshivapur, Bhanu, Dulegauda, Tanahunsur have been reduced to ashes, informed District Forest Office Tanahun. Though no human casualty has been reported so far, many plants, animals and birds have been affected due to the inferno, said experts.
“Wildfires have raged in the forests of the district almost every day,” said district forest officer Ram Babu Paudel. He said most of the fire spread because people had burnt the dry grass land.
Nepal Police, Nepali Army, forest officials and consumers have been engaged in dousing the fire, Paudel said. According to him, legal action accompanied by fines would be slapped on people found responsible for causing fire in the southern part of the district.
Meanwhile, district forest office has alerted people not to take matches or lighter inside the forest area and not to throw cigarette butts without putting them off completely.
