Fire breaks out at bank in Kodungaiyur

CHENNAI: Fire and rescue department officials retrieved lakhs of currency notes without any damage from the Bank of India branch in Kodungaiyur after a fire broke out on Saturday morning.
One of the security guard spotted thick smoke from one of the rooms and informed the fire and rescue control room.
The fire was reported just before business hours on Saturday. Soon a team of fire and rescue personnel from VOC Nagar and Vyasarpadi rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the fire was triggered by power leakage at the UPS unit in the bank.
All the furniture and ledgers in the bank were gutted in the fire. However, the fire personnel acted swiftly and prevented the fire from spreading to the cash chest and safe. Case has been registered and further investigation is on.
