Fire hits residential area in Mandaluyong City

Updated: 2023-02-12

A fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City on Sunday morning.

The fire started past 6 a.m., according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

The affected area includes Block 32 Extension, where residents were seen carrying pails of water to help douse the fire.

Thick black smoke could be seen even from EDSA.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has raised the fourth alarm before 7:30 a.m., then the fifth alarm at 7:50 a.m.

The fire quickly spread since most of the houses were made of light materials. The houses were also built closely to each other in the compound.

Firemen also had difficulty putting out the fire due to the narrow streets leading to the affected area, making it difficult for firetrucks to pass through.

Personnel of Manila Electric Co. cut the power line in the area to ensure the safety of residents and firemen.

The fire was placed under control before 9 a.m.

“Fire out” on the other hand was declared at 9:32 a.m.

A total of 300 families and an estimated 100 houses were affected by the fire, the BFP said.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Affected residents temporarily sought shelter at the barangay covered court.

According to the BFP, the fire may have been sparked by an unattended stove.

BFP’s investigation is ongoing as of posting time.

Meanwhile, the property damage is estimated to be worth P8 million. —KG, GMA Integrated News
