13 residents trapped in Thane building after fire rescued

THANE: As many as 13 residents trapped in a ground plus four-storey building in old Thane were rescued after the meter box area near the structure entrance went up in flames Thursday morning, officials informed.
The incident was reported around 7.30am in the Guruprerna building in Charai area following which the rescue teams were alerted who managed to douse the fire within two hours.
No one was injured in the incident, informed civic officials.
The structure is a composite structure with commercial and residential units located.
“There was a fire in the meter box room near the building entrance in the morning. The flames slowly spread to the upper floors as panicked residents took refuse on the terrace. Our teams reached the spot and accessed the structure from the terrace and managed to bring the fire under control,” informed Avinash Sawant, chief at the regional disaster management cell, Thane.
