14 shops gutted in vegetable market fire

KATHMANDU: An early morning blaze at the Koteshwor fruit and vegetables market has destroyed over a dozen shops, causing losses of properties worth millions. The fire that broke out at 4:10 am this morning destroyed 14 temporary sheds including a store-house made of tin and wood, Metropolitan Police Sector, Koteshwor told THT Online. Police were fanned out to the fire site soon after cloud of smoke was seen from Koteshwor police office. “It took almost one hour and four fire engines to control the inferno,” a police officer at Koteshwor Sector said. The cause of the blaze is still being investigated. After the preliminary investigation, police estimated that the properties worth approximately Rs 8.5 million were gutted in the fire.
