62-year-old woman suffers burn injuries after saree catches fire in Kalyan apartment

KALYAN: A 62-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries after her saree caught fire while making food inside her flat at multi-storey building in Kalyan, on Wednesday.
The injured woman has been identified as Rachana Kaushal (62). She has suffered 60 per cent burn injuries. 

The incident took place around 3pm in a rented flat situated on the 14th floor in B-8 building in Kalyan’s Raunak City
When the incident took place, a woman was alone inside her house. When she came out of her flat, her neighbours doused the fire and she was rushed to private Aayush hospital. However, due to serious injuries, she was shifted to National Burn hospital in Airoli.
The fire spread into entire flat destroying belongings.
The locals from building said that injured Kaushal recently came to stay in building on rental basis with her husband who was outside when fire took place.
“A woman was preparing food when her saree caught fire. She tried to control fire but failed and came out of her flat when neighbours doused fire and rushed her to hospital,” said fire brigade official said.
“The woman suffered serious burn injuries upto 60% to 70 % due to which we referred her to another specialised burn hospital,” said Dr Amit Botkondle from Aayush hospital.
