Updated: 2023-02-28
HUBBALLI: An open area in the Hubballi Airport caught fire for nearly two hours on Monday morning.
Sources in Deshpande Startups, located adjacent to the airport, said smoke was seen by 10am and the fire was spreading towards their premises due to wind.
“However, airport and fire personnel started to douse the fire and they controlled it by 1pm,” they added.
Hubballi airport director Pramod Kumar Thakre said it was grass fire that was seen on the city side in the premises.
“It was not in any operational area, and it was in an open area. We immediately acted upon it and could control it with the help of personnel of fire and emergency services department,” he said.
He added that as there was no electrical setup in the area, there is no possibility of a short circuit.
“Someone might have thrown some burning cigarette and the dry grass and leaves caught fire,” he said.
There was no loss as such or casualties, he added.
