Nine infants rescued as SNCU facility at hospital catches fire in Haryana’s Yamunanagar

YAMUNANAGAR: Nine infants were rescued as fire broke out in the special newborn care unit (SNCU) at Mukand Lal district civil hospital in Yamunanagar on Saturday morning.
As per the information, the fire broke out at the hospital due to an electric short circuit in the air conditioner at SNCU and the staff deputed noticed the smoke at about 7:15am.
Noticing the smoke, the hospital administration swung into action and rescued all nine newborn infants admitted at the SNCU and shifted them to other rooms.
The hospital administration called the fire brigade, which managed to douse the fire.
Yamunanagar district Civil surgeon Dr Manjit Singh confirmed that the fire broke out at SNCU due to electric short circuit in an air conditioner on Saturday morning.
Yamunanagar fire officer Pramod Kumar Duggal said, “We received information at 7.35 am and fire brigade was immediately rushed to hospital which doused the flames.”
“Nine babies were under treatment at the SNCU when the fire broke out. Five babies among them were shifted to SNCU of civil hospital, Jagadhri and four were discharged and handed them over to their parents,” said Dr Manjeet Singh.
About the loss due to fire, Dr Manjeet said a computer set and some documents were damaged in the fire.
The hospital authorities said that babies which required treatment were admitted in the SNCU and the air conditioners were used to maintain temperature.
