2 injured as fire breaks out in fireworks unit in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Two workers sustained severe burn injuries after a fire broke out in a fireworks unit at Kottainatham village in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar on Monday.
The injured employees were identified as Muthupandi (42) of Kottainatham village, and Karuppasamy (60) of Kattanarpatti village. They sustained 100% burn injuries.
According to police sources, there are over 40 working sheds in the fireworks unit.
On Monday morning when Muthupandi and Karuppasamy were manufacturing cracker fuse in a working shed, a fire broke out due to friction.
The injured were admitted at the Virudhunagar government medical college hospital.
On information about the incident, fire and rescue services personnel went to the spot and put out the fire. Vachakarapatti police are investigating the incident.
