10 injured as fire breaks out in Mumbai high-rise

MUMBAI: Ten persons were injured while 80 others had to be rescued after a fire broke out in a seven-storey building at Mumbai’s Mulund West area on Wednesday afternoon around 2.30pm. 
The injured persons were found in unconscious state on the staircase during the rescue operations. 

Deputy fire officer Ravindra Ambulgekar said that none of the injured suffered burn injuries. 
“It was an SRA building and fire started from the meter cabin and spread upwards. There was a collapsible lift located besides the cabin. Those residents who tried to escape got stuck in the stairway. None of the flats have been affected internally,” he said. 
Fire brigade officials said that the blaze which occurred at Jagruti Society located on Sevaram Lalwani Road, was mainly confined to the electric wiring, installations, cables, meters and electric switches in the common electric meter cabin on ground floor of the building. 
“Fire was extinguished by the fire brigade by cutting off the electric supply & PNG supply and using one high pressure first aid line of a motor pump. Due to the fire, the entire staircase was filled with smoke and some residents were trapped in the lobby,” BMC said. 
The injured people were sent to the civic-run MT Agrawal Hospital.
The injured have been identified as Ashwini Sakpal, 52, Rajeshri Sakapal, 58, Sushila Adhav, 63, Rajesh Adhav,36,
Swara Adhav, 8, Vishakha Adhav, 10, Akshara Savarkar, 32, Kavish Savarkar, 4, Suvarna Shinde, 50, and Manjula Jethava, 40.
