Chaos at Khandwa hospital after fire in storeroom

Indore: Fire broke out in a storeroom at Khandwa district hospital leading to chaos among the patients on Wednesday morning.
The fire in a storeroom next to a dialysis unit broke out at around 10.30 am. It is after thick smoke started emanating from the room, staff and visitors raised an alert and helped two patients, who were undergoing dialysis in the very next room, to come out safely. Fire brigade and Kotwali police officials the reached spot after getting information of the fire.
The hospital management, however, claimed that the situation was soon brought under control by trained staff with fire extinguishers installed on the walls.
“The fire was reported due to short-circuit in a storeroom next to the dialysis unit, when two patients were admitted there,” civil surgeon Dr OP Jugtawat told TOI.
The hospital trained staff managed to douse the flames by using fire-extinguishers and brought the situation under control before the fire brigade could reach the spot and initiated their operation, the civil surgeon added.
“Dialysis of both the patients was completed later,” he said, adding that Khandwa district hospital had made all required arrangements to deal with such situation and had also obtained fire NOC from the departments concerned.
The dialysis unit of district hospital has recently been upgraded with an expenditure of lakhs of rupees, sources said
