Close call for 10 as fire breaks out in textile printing factory in Noida

Updated: 2023-03-24

NOIDA: Ten people had a narrow escape after a fire broke out at a textile printing factory in Sector 10 early on Thursday. The fire officer said those people were sleeping inside the building when the fire erupted due to a short circuit.
The fire department received the information around 7.30am and within five minutes, four fire tenders were rushed to the factory.

“The fire broke out on the top floor of the three-story building, where the workers slept on the top floor. Thick smoke engulfed the entire building within minutes and due to poor visibility, the rescue operation became difficult,” said Pradeep Chaubey, the chief fire officer (CFO) of Gautam Budh Nagar.
The firefighters used the hydraulic ladder and rescued the workers stuck inside.
“Two of the factory workers had inhaled a lot of smoke and were given first aid. It has been found that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. No heavy electrical equipment was being used at that time and the workers were sleeping,” added Chaubey.
The CFO said with the onset of summer, fire incidents are likely to rise due to increased electricity load and short circuits.
“We have seen that 80-90% of the fire incidents are related to short circuits. People should avoid overloading their switch points and connections. If the load is higher, the wiring should be changed accordingly. Also, do not keep inflammable items like diya, candle, etc. unattended,” stated the fire officer.
Last year, 1,514 fire-related cases were reported in the district.A stretch of over a kilometer across the two waddos was gutted in the fire, but there was no loss of property as there were no houses in the area. “The whole property belongs to the comunidade. On the Regional Plan most of it is shown as no development zone,” said the sarpanch.
