Fire breaks out in warehouse in Ghaziabad, 6 injured

GHAZIABAD: A fire broke out in a scrap warehouse in Vikas Nagar on Meerut Road on Thursday evening. Fire officers said leakage from deodorant bottles caused the fire. Ten people were trapped inside at that time, but the fire department rescued them. Six of them received burn injuries.
The warehouse was being run by Sanjesh Kumar on an empty plot in the area.
The fire department received information about the incident around 8pm. “Immediately, three fire tenders were sent. But, when we saw that the fire was big, two more fire tenders were pressed into service. We surrounded the area and started dousing the flames from five directions. It took over two hours to completely douse the blaze. Meanwhile, one team went inside to rescue the people,” said Rahul Pal, chief fire officer.
Out of the 10 rescued, six received burn injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital. “Their condition is stable now,” added Pal.
The initial investigation revealed that deodorant bottle leakage ignited the flames.
“The workers used to extract the aluminium from the deodorant bottles and then sell them. But in the process, the chemical leaked from some of the bottles. The chemical is no less flammable than petrol. Somehow, due to a worker’s mistake, the fire broke out,” the CFO told TOI.
