Updated: 2023-03-31
KANPUR: A major fire broke out at an oil factory — which was closed for the last four years — in Rania Industrial Area in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning.
Due to the strong wind, the fire took a formidable form and spread to a major portion of the factory destroying property and goods worth several lakhs.
Even as chief fire officer (CFO) Surendra Singh arrived with several fire tenders, the fire brigade personnel struggled hard to control the blaze.
It was learned that to restart the factory, the maintenance work was underway.
The CFO said that the fire broke out at Lakshmi Vanaspati Factory, which manufactures edible oil, located in the Rania Industrial area on the Kanpur-Kanpur Dehat highway in Umran village.
“Locals of the area said that the factory has been non-functional for the last four years,” he said, and added, “To restart the factory, maintenance work was going on there.”
Police officials, including superintendent of police, assistant superintendent of police and circle officer, Sadar, along with the local police teams, reached the spot and assisted the fire personnel.
Ved Prakash Tripathi, who works in the factory, said that “the maintenance work has been started to run the factory again during which fire broke out.”
