Updated: 2023-04-04
NAGPUR: The passengers of an Amravati-bound Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus had a narrow escape as they managed to step out of the vehicle in the nick of time after it caught fire in a ghat section of the Nagpur-Amravati national highway in Nagpur district on Tuesday.
According to a fire official, the incident took place around 9am.
“The Nagpur-Amravati Shivshahi bus was passing from Kondhali section when suddenly smoke started emitting from the engine. There were 16 passengers in the bus,” the bus driver Jahir Shaikh said.
“I immediately stopped the bus and informed the conductor and asked passengers to step out,” the driver said.
Just after the passengers got down, the bus started engulfing.
Shaikh then immediately informed the fire control room and also alerted the police.
On getting the information, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s fire and emergency services department sent two fire tenders to the spot.
