Updated: 2023-04-07

Kanpur: District magistrate Vishak G Iyer has constituted a grievance committee for early redressal of insurance claims of readymade traders who had suffered major losses in the Anwarganj, Bansmandi fire.

The grievance committee comprises joint commissioner State Goods and Services Tax (SGST), lead bank manager and ACM-7.

The team of joint commissioner, SGST and ACM -7 has been instructed to coordinate with insurance companies and prepare a checklist of documents required for disposal of claim forms and give the compensation to traders soon.

The DM held a meeting with ADM finance, joint commissioner SGST, lead bank manager and representatives of all insurance companies in this regard in the camp office on Wednesday and directed that all insurance companies should check from their database how many traders have submitted their insurance claim and to ensure the claim form is filled duly by those who have not.

DM also said that during the exercise, shopkeepers should not be harassed unnecessarily and the records required for the insurance claim should be first determined through representatives of the joint commissioner, SGST, LDM and two insurance companies.

He said, “All insurance companies have been directed to complete survey and damage assessment of the buildings from April 11 to 13 in the presence of fire department and police officials. Also, the insurance companies must appoint a surveyor to ensure that the survey work is done at their own level.”
