Fire breaks out in Bansmandi tower

KANPUR: After five readymade garments complex in Anwarganj Bansmandi area of the city were burnt to ashes about a week ago, fire broke out at AR Complex Tower once again on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
A thick column of smoke started emanating from the AR Tower, one of the five commercial complexes that were devastated in the fire recently. An alert was sounded by the policemen deployed there and fire tenders from various fire stations were requisitioned. The fire was brought under control after one and a half hour of the exercise to extinguish it.
Anwarganj police station in charge Ashok Kumar said, “Fire broke out on the fourth floor of AR Tower around 1.30 am and alert policemen apprised the fire department. Fire was brought under control after one and a half hour.”
Property and goods worth several crores of rupees got gutted in a major fire that broke out in more than 1,150 ready-made garments shops located in the five markets, including AR Tower, in the Bansmandi area of the city on the intervening night of March 30 and 31. It took 5 days to extinguish the fire in the five complexes.
