Fire breaks out in labour room in Thane; none injured

THANE: A minor fire apparently triggered by a short circuit was reported in the labour room of a municipality-run maternity home in Thane east, late Thursday evening, officials informed.
No one was injured in the incident as the labour room was empty at the time of the mishap.
There was a short circuit in the wall mounted fan and alert staff promptly switched off supply temporarily, which may have helped contain the spread of the blaze, officials said based on preliminary investigations.
There were eight patients including a few newborns in the adjoining general ward at the time of the incident but no evacuations were required, informed Avinash Sawant, chief at the regional disaster management cell, Thane.
A probe will be launched in the incident, said officials.
