Three Killed In House Fire

KUCHING, May 7 (Bernama)– Two sisters, aged five and three years, and an adult woman perished in a fire that gutted 11 houses in Tabuan Foochow, here, Wednesday.
The body of Nur Diana Azmi and her younger sister, Nur Syaza, were discovered under a bed in their room but the dead woman who was badly burned, has yet to be identified.
Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station chief, Tawang Lingen said the fire which started at about 10.30am swept through the 11 houses within 20 minutes.
“We received a distress call from a member of the public at about 10.30am and we immediately rushed 41 personnel from the Tabuan Jaya, Batu Lintang and Kuching Fire Station to the scene,” Tawang told Bernama.
He said seven of the 11 houses were razed to the ground while the rest were about 70 per cent damaged.
“We managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses within 20 minutes,” added Tawang, who led the rescue team.
Also at the scene was state Fire and Rescue Department director, Nor Hisham Mohammad.
Tawang said all the bodies were sent to the Sarawak General Hospital, while the cause of the fire was being investigated.
